Arcata neighborhood email groups

What is neighborhood email group?

An email group is a way for a large number of people to distribute email messages. Typically, a group will have an email addres, like neighborhood@googlegroups.com. When a group member sends a message to this address it is broadcast to all the members of that group. One of the primary advantages of using this arrangement, instead of addressing a message to a long list of recipients, is that each group member can control how he or she receives messages. They can, for example, have each message delievered to their email account, have them delivered in a single daily "digest" message, or not have them delivered to their email at all, but go to a website to read messages. If they should desire, members can remove themselves from a list at any time. Another advantage of an email group is that the other recipients of email messages do not see your email address, offering increased privacy and protection from spam.

Dealing with message traffic from an email group

Another advantage of an email group is that it is easy to have all the incoming messages sorted into a particular folder or given a particular label, which helps you prioritize your time and read your email in an organized fashion. Learn how easy and useful rule-based sorting and labeling is.
